What happens when two of your greatest passions collide ?
Here I am working on a stack of commissioned pet portrait for clients while a litter of five rowdy foster puppies play by my feet.
How did I get here ?
I have been taking in stray dogs, cats and the occasional frog, rodent or turtle since I was 5 years old. My love for animals has always been apparent. I began fostering for dog rescue organizations over ten years ago and in that time have fostered over 60 dogs and puppies. I have also been drawing since I was 5 years old. As a daughter of an award winning porcelain doll artist, art was always in my home and a big part of my life. But it wasn’t until one fateful (rare) snowstorm here in Nashville, TN 5 years ago that these two passions would collide when I picked up a paintbrush and painted my first watercolor painting of my dog Leo. For some reason I had never tried watercolor painting or particularly cared for painting at all … but for some reason all these years later, and with the inspiration of animals, everything suddenly seemed to click. I posted a photo of one my paintings on social media and within weeks the orders were flooding in. I was completely unprepared for such an overwhelming response and demand for pet portraits. Suddenly it made perfect sense … People love their pets! People love art! Here was a great business that organically found me! There is an emotional connection between myself and my client when I hand over their finished painting that resonates deep within me and fills me with a great sense of purpose. I believe we are given certain gifts and passions in this life because we are meant to use them. And the timing of when these gifts and passions emerge is all in perfect timing. Now as a new mom this business has provided me the stability to work from home and not miss a minute with my baby daughter … or my fur babies for that matter !
